How Much

NHS treatment is categorised into three bands.

For non-exempt / paying NHS patients:

URGENT: £20.60 Treatment deemed necessary to alleviate a toothache when not under a course of treatment. Most urgent treatments can be done in one appointment. However, if more than one visit is required and you return to the same dentist to complete your urgent treatment, the Band 1 urgent charge is all that you should pay.

BAND ONE:  £20.60 Dental examination, x-rays if needed, scale and polish if deemed clinically necessary by a dentist, oral healthcare, and prevention advice. Some fissure sealants. All items to diagnose and prevent decay.

BAND TWO: £56.30 All band-one items plus fillings, root canals, tooth extractions, wisdom tooth extractions.

BAND THREE:  £244.30 All bands one and two plus any laboratory work eg crown, bridge, inlay, dentures, Some treatments of missing teeth.

Am I Exempt

You may be exempt from your dental charges if either you or your partner, receive either:

• Income Support.
• Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (income related not contribution).
• Guarantee Pension Credit.
• You are entitled to, or named on, a valid NHS tax credit exemption certificate.
• You are named on a valid HC2 certificate.
• If you are pregnant or had a baby in the last 12 months.
• Employment support allowance (income related not contribution).
• You are named on a valid HC3 certificate, which limits the amount you have to pay.
